Greetings our friends,

We can’t believe how fast the time flows when one is having so much fun! This year has been filled with all sorts of adventures and inspiration for us and we are planning on bringing that energy to the Elysium this year! So yes, we are in CREATION MODE! It is with pleasure that we present to you – The Elysium Midsummer Festival 2010 on July 16th through 18th at the La Jolla Indian Campground.

This year, we want to push even further in reinforcing the notion that evolution and change are the primary mechanisms that drive creativity. We have long struggled with the challenge of how to best support the music, the art, the projects, and the people that contribute so much to the enrichment of our lives. Whether that broadening of life experience happens at an event such as Burning Man or in a corner coffee shop, there are artists, entertainers, musicians, designers, and others that dedicate themselves fully to their craft and positively affect the human condition. Generally, these souls are humble in their ways and never ask for more than the appreciation and acknowledgment of their efforts. It is in this humility that our Elysium was born.

In line with our Mission, we have announced a new Elysium logo contest this year and it was an overwhelming success! It took us FOREVER to decide whose artwork resonated the most with the event because ALL OF THEM were fantastic and blew us away! We want to explicitly thank ALL the artists who contributed their art work to the contest and we will be displaying all of them at the event.

With that, we are proud to announce the winner of the contest:

Sandy Bagri, aka Sandbag.

We really feel that he beautifully captured the spirit of the event and channeled it into the new image.

CONGRATULATIONS SANDY!

As we continued with our mission to support all artists we have added yet another focus; the true soul of every event and our biggest supporters and inspiration … our community. We encourage you to meet thy neighbor this year, to take the extra time to look a passerby in the eyes and smile. Hug your friends and send air kisses to strangers. Don’t be afraid to open yourself to new people, possibilities, and ideas. Express yourself as freely as only you can allow.

Elysium Festival provides an atmosphere, mindfully created with intent to be conducive to our Philosophy that encourages the development and strengthening of long term relationships. We do this by setting the stage for face to face interaction, governed by sentiments of trust, co-operation, altruism and playful engagement.

Come celebrate with us on the weekend of July 16-18, 2010 and explore your diverse community and all the creativity that it inspires!

The event will be held at the same location as three previous years the La Jolla Indian Reservation.

Tickets will go on sale WEDNESDAY, APRIL 21, 2010.

We are looking forward to seeing you again or meeting you for the first time this year!

With lots of excitement,
The Elysium Team

Just under a week now before the 19th of June and then we’re all going to be enjoying the beauty, fun, relaxing and inspirational times at Elysium. I’m excited to have more spaces and more faces at this year’s event, so tell all of your cool friends to come along so they don’t miss out on one of the best events of the year. We have a phenomenal line up this year to blow you away with an even better EAW Line Array sound system then previous years. (Check out the line up at Elysiumfestival.org) Our Bazaar area is going to be insanely fun with a small acoustical size stage pumping tunes from the main stage, broken up with smaller fun acts to entertain you while you enjoy free drinks from the bar, yes that’s right. And our Coffee guys are back, plus we’ll be serving up some tasty delights to tingle your taste buds. And let’s not forget that we’ll have various artistic vendors selling their fun creations so you can look good while you’re feeling good hanging out in the trippy décor created by our very own Hand Chop and his fabulous team.

Once again this year we will have Healysium providing a Zen healing space for yoga, massage, energy work and deeper conversations of a spiritual nature. If you have items of the Zen nature such as chimes, bamboo creations, statues, alter items, cushions or rugs please feel free to contribute to the collaborative energy of this area. If you would also like to share your knowledge and expertise in regards to any subject of a healing nature please contact Katya to see how you can share. Healysium will be located just north and just off to the right of the road after passing the main stage and shower block.(If you run into the Tiki Fucko’s Dome and their margaritas you’ve gone too far, but that’s how those Tiki Fucko’s do it.)

A chill lounge area will also be set up just south of the Bazaar area with more ambient tunes and chill visuals. This will be a communal area and once again if you have extra carpets, rugs, futons, cushions, seats, art and anything that you feel would contribute to a chill lounge please feel free to contribute. This will also be an area for acoustical & percussion musicians to create jam sessions with didgeridoos, drums, guitars, accordions, etc. We would love for people to feel welcome to share their talents with the rest of the community so they too can participate.

The Art Creation Station is back once again and will be located in the same spot as last year between the stage and the river. Please come and create crazy fun art as there will be some projects to create as well as the usual paint, pipe cleaners, hats, feathers, black light stuff and costume wares to cut up, sew, paint and create your own style. If you have cool fun costuming clothes you haven’t worn in some time then please bring and share. Someone else will probably look good in it.

Eon ranch is back in their riverside location just to the left of the entry bridge and will be BBQ legends

Wow, I feel like I’m writing an essay and I still haven’t finished.

I’m going to finish with a few rules, we don’t have a lot by regular event standards, however the rules we do have are important to the success, enjoyment and safety of the event.

No GLASS. Simple, no bottles, glasses or stuff that will break. This is by regulation of the Indian Reservation; please respect this as it is for our protection and the protection of the reservation. Bring your booze in plastic bottles and consume it in a non glass vessel. Don’t cry if we confiscate it and give it away at the bar. We will be having a party at the main gate, a search party, so please don’t be offended if security wants to take a peak in your vehicle. This is a biggie so I thank you in advance for your co-operation.

No cars parked in the Village area (camp 7). RV and in car camping is in the Burbs south of the gate. This is so we can create the event area we all can appreciate as a community. There will be some exceptions for event production only. We have a transportation plan in effect so be patient and understand that these decisions are based on what’s best for the event and ultimately our community.

No amplified sound which is not associated with the event. We will be shutting down all sound for an environmental nature break Saturday morning so peeps can sleep. Sunday morning the sound will be low and mellow for the early part of the morning. Please be respectful of your neighbors and your volume, being loud and obnoxious to your neighbors is not cool and will not be tolerated. Once again these decisions are for the benefit of the community as a whole.

21 years and up event, bring your ID.

This one is not so much a rule but more of a request. Please do not get belligerently intoxicated or allow your friends to do so. We have a very open and welcoming community and this event has been created to provide a place where people can be safe and are able to be expressive and creative among other respectful people. Drinking is a big part of the fun we have and allows many of us to enjoy our time at our events. However we have learned that too much alcohol creates situations where boundaries are crossed and unwanted issues arise. We would rather that not happen at this event. At this event our friends are our family and our responsibility. Please help us all have a great time and create an amazing vibe so that we can all experience and understand the true meaning of being in the world of Elysium.

Thank you all for your understanding, your appreciation and your participation in making Elysium the place, the event and the dream that we all have as a creative community.

Peace, Love and Banging Beats,
Kiwi and the Elysium Team

The summer has been slowly creeping up on us and before we know it, we are only three weeks away from Elysium Midsummer Festival ‘09 (with summer solstice falling on the same weekend of June 19-21st). This year we are back to La Jolla Indian Reservation again – it proved to be such a magical spot for all of us!

If you have not joined our family yet we would love to see you there, really… dancing your soul out to some amazingly talented DJs (like Oscure, Braden, Yona, Pod, and Cervantes just to name a few), or getting your senses aroused by interactive performance of Unifier in collaboration with various stunningly talented musicians, chanters, and performers (bring blankets and water- this one is going to be FUN!), or getting your groove on to the rhythms and jazzy twists of Helios Jive at the acoustic stage…. or enjoying yourself watching Matias Mahia painting UV activated tapestry that comes to life in front of your very eyes, or just taking a morning yoga class in the shade of Healysium Lounge! Prepare to be enveloped by the abandon of creativity, music (both electronic and live) and performance artists that push the limits of your imagination and expand our community experience!

Check out our newly added Photo and Video Galleries from ‘06, ‘07, and ‘08.

Line Up:

To smile with delight over the full line up and connect with the artists where you can listen to music samples or watch performance previews.

Join the Pre-Event Creative Shenanigans with Your Community:

Mushroom Toadstool Building Party
When: Saturday, June 6th, starting at 12:00pm
Where: Base Mechanic Shop, 30th Place, 92102 (30th and G place)

This Saturday, June 6th, starting at 12:00pm come hang out with us at Base Mechanic Shop (formerly known as Liquid-O compound) drink some cervesas, enjoy some good tunes, and eat some hearty BBQ, all whilst creating your very own mushroom toadstool! (All materials will be provided, although if you feel so inspired as to bring your own flare we would love to see your creation!)
We are also looking for donations of various stuffing materials, for example: old pillows, soft fabric scraps or foam. If you have any of these just cluttering space in your crafts area or your garage this is yet one more way you can recycle your old stuff into something new and useful!

Little Something about them rulezzzz……

We would like to take this opportunity to kindly ask you not to bring any glass containers on the premises of the event, it is strictly forbidden by the rules of the La Jolla Indians’ Tribe land that we are using for our celebration. We would like to continue in the spirit of respectful collaboration with the tribe, so we ask you to honor this rule.

(Violator’s bottles will be removed from site (along with the owner if necessary), so please spread the word and make sure all your friends know about our NO GLASS policy!)

Gate Operation

Gates Open at NOON (12:00pm) on Friday, June 19th for general admission. Please arrive on or after that time- we would be pained to watch you sit at the entrance for hours!

Camping Info

There will be NO CAR PARKING/CAR CAMPING in The Village (area 7 where Main stage, Bazzar, Acoustic stage, Healysium, Art Creation station, and Mushroom Café are located) with the exceptions of a few staff and performers’ vehicles that were pre-arranged with Matty Lust.

Car Camping/Car Parking will be permitted in The Burbs (Area 6). All vehicles will be parked in this area, but worry NOT- Security will be provided for both The Village and The Burbs.

Bazaar Vending

There will be 15-20 various local artists sharing their creations with our community at Elysium this year. So be prepared and bring some extra cash should something crafty catch your eye. However, if that dollar in your wallet is crying for company and there are some dust balls in your wallet, some artists in the community have been known to trade in some cases for goods, services, and labor.

If you are one of the local artists, that would like to sell/exhibit your creations please contact our Vendor Coordinator, the lovely Lady Mary Margaret. For any other questions, concerns, ideas, and general banter send a message to General Questions.

We will be sending out an informational email closer to the event with more details, directions, last minute guidance, etc to all those who have signed up for the Elysium Festival news updates. If you have not done so, please subscribe to the mailing list.

(We will NOT send you any emails that do not relate to Elysium Midsummer Festival.)

Warmest hugs to all!

On behalf of the Elysium Crew,

Katya

Greetings our friends,

It is time to get our creative forces moving, yet again, in a one of a kind adventure. It is with pleasure that we present to you the Elysium Midsummer Festival 2009.

This year, our minds wondered even further, reinforcing the notion that evolution and change are the primary mechanisms that drive our creativity.

Generally, these souls are humble in their ways and never ask for more than the appreciation and acknowledgement of their efforts. It is in this humility that our Elysium was born.

As we continue with our mission to reward and encourage these artists we recognize that the soul of Elysium is our community. More than ever we encourage you to meet thy neighbor and interact with them as our community grows. Take the extra time to look a passerby in the eyes and smile, hug your friends and blow kisses to a strangers, don’t be afraid to open yourself to the people, possibilities, and ideas that are your Elysium. Express yourself and engage your community.

The Elysium Midsummer Festival provides an atmosphere, mindfully created with intent to be conducive to our community Philosophy, that encourages the development and strengthening of long term relationship. We do this by setting the stage for face to face interaction, governed by sentiments of trust, co-operation, altruism and playful engagement.

Come celebrate with us, the weekend of June 19th- 21st and experience the diverse community and creativity that inspired Elysium! This weekend falls on Summer Solstice so get ready for some merriment paralleled only by your imagination!

The event will be held at the same location as two previous years; the La Jolla Indian Reservation.

The Elysium Midsummer Festival 2009 Website is up with all the updates and all of the Performer line up published. We are still working on several finishing touches and will keep you up to date as the performance list, activities, installations, vendors, and camps develop. In order to provide you with the best vibe that suits our mission statement, ticket sales will be limited and there will be no ticket sales at the gate. All the $75.00 Early Bird tickets are sold out, but $90.00 General Admission Tickets are still available. RV parking tickets will be sold separately for $50.00 with only limited spaces available. We strongly encourage you to conserve natural resources and physical space at the location for campers by, car pooling to the event.

There also have been slight changes in the event rules and we would like to highlight several of the them.

This will be a NO GLASS event. Please prepare for this in advance. Collect plastic or metal bottles to pour all your liquids into (yes, this includes alcohol). We are required per the terms of our agreement with the La Jolla Indian Reservation to ensure that everyone in attendance does not bring glass onto the Reservation.

There will be NO PARKING in The Village (Area 7). We are converting the area where cars were parked the previous year into a fabulous Bazaar. The Bazaar will be the community plaza space hosting the Acoustic Stage built by Zirk Ubu, The Giant Mushroom Bar, and several vendors from the community sharing their artistic creations.

This year we are adding an additional camp ground for parking and car camping. Area 7, which we shall call The Village, will be car free with the minimal exceptions for service, crew, and performers vehicles. All vehicles that will be allowed to enter The Village have to be preregistered with Matty Lust. (metienturkish@hotmail.com) Transportation of gear will be provided from the gate to the camping spot and back.

All car parking and car-camping will be moved to Area 6, which we shall call The Burbs. The Burbs will have full security as well as The Village.

We THANK YOU in advance for complying with these new changes!

If you would like to be involved:

To volunteer at the event send a message to our volunteer coordinator (Matty Lust)
There are a wide variety of volunteer roles you can choose from! If you want to go to the event but are strapped financially, this may be a great option for you!

Performance Artists – for inquiries about line up and performances send a message to our Performance Coordinator.

Vendors – for inquiries about participating in the Bazaar please send a message to our Vendor Coordinator.</l>

There has been some changes in the event rules so please take your time to read through them carefully! This is our family and we want to make sure that we are all on board!

This is a NO GLASS event! Please bring all your supplies in plastic, metal, or wood containers. La Jolla Indian reservation PROHIBITS any glass on premises.

This year we are providing camping in area 6 (The Burbs) as well as in area 7 (The Village). Yes, that’s right, in lieu of so many vehicles at the event last year and our desire to create an organic spacious environment no car parking will be allowed in Camping area 7 (The Village) with the exception of service, staff, and performers vehicles. Parking for those vehicles must be prearranged with Dr. Lust PRIOR to the event. Car-camping and car parking will be available in Camping Area 6 (The Burbs) with no restrictions.

We are adding a lot more art installations and community space in area 7 (The Village) this year so we ask you to please comply with this new policy. Shuttle for taking your camping gear will be provided.
